The Bronx Real Estate Information
Parks
Nature & Outdoors
The Bronx is 24% parklands--that's a greater percentage of green
space than any other urban area in the country. Below are just some
of the great parks you'll find in the Bronx.
Crotona Park
Crotona Avenue & Claremont Pkwy.
The centerpiece of this popular park is Indian Lake, where kids go to
sail model boats. In August, Crotona Park is the site of the Bronx Tennis
Classic, a professional competition of top seeded players.
Joyce Kilmer Park
Grand Concourse & 161st Street
Named after the American author and poet best known for his poem Trees,
Joyce Kilmer Park sits across from the Bronx County Building and is
a hub of year-round activity. Its centerpiece is the Heinrich Hein Fountain
(also called the Lorelei Fountain) beautifully restored in 1999.
Pelham Bay Park
Stadium Avenue & Middletown Road
Three times the size of Central Park, Pelham Bay is easily New York
City's largest park. Beautiful bike paths, picnic areas, tennis courts,
driving ranges, horseback riding and open playing fields are some of
the things that draw locals and visitors alike.
Poe Park
grand Concourse & Kingsbridge Road
Centrally located on the famous Grand Concourse, it's where you can
visit Edgar Allan Poe Cottage, the final residence of the American literary
master.
Van Cortlandt Park
Broadway & W. 242nd Street
One of New York City's loveliest parks, it can best be explored via
the John Muir Hiking Trail. There's also swimming, horseback riding,
and handball and tennis courts. Every summer Van Cortlandt Park is the
site of a free performance by the New York City Philharmonic Orchestra.
